NoonSong (눈송) was inspired by the Korean word for "snowflake." It was a term ascribed to me by a "friend" who intended to insult me. I didn't know what he meant, so I looked it up. According to UrbanDictionary.com, a "snowflake" is "a very sensitive person. Someone who is easily hurt or offended by the statements or actions of others." (UrbanDictionary.com, 2017). Criticizing people who are sensitive or empathic is and has been a historic and I argue archaic opinion. I wanted to spin "Snowflake" as a term of power and strength. Thus, NoonSong Therapy was born. Snowflakes are unique and when joined with others create snow- something beautiful and much stronger than one singular snowflake. In a world that encourages emotional cutoff and hardness, I challenge that outlook as I believe that we need more empathy, awareness, and snowflakes to change the world.
As the oldest daughter of first-generation Korean immigrants, growing up in a rural Amish county was anything but easy. But because of my challenges and experiences, I am now able to empathize with those struggling with their identity, wanting to stop generational patterns and trauma, and desiring better outcomes. My ability to anticipate and articulate others' needs helps me to connect and resonate with my clients.
I graduated with a bachelors degree in environmental science (ES) and minor in religious studies from Colby College in Maine. Although I am not involved in ES anymore, my desire to make the world a happier and better place has never diminished. Since moving to Oahu, I have redirected my focus to supporting as many individuals as possible and my community. I graduated from National University with my master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) in 2024.
I believe that all of us can live a life where we are empowered and thriving- not just surviving. At times, things like grief, depression, anxiety, and trauma can weigh us down. But with the desire for change, some helpful tools, and more awareness and consciousness we can "move the needle" towards our hopes, goals, and dreams.
My approach to therapy is to establish a trusting therapeutic relationship with my clients through validating, accepting, and meeting them where they are without judgement and with wholehearted empathy. I use tools and concepts from solution focused therapy, narrative therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and boundary work with clients. Therapy is not "one-size-fits all" method therefore I cater the sessions towards their needs.
